I dunno where i saw it, but i did it anyways (nothing to lose)… so here i share my experience:

I had some Johnson automotive window film laying around… so i put it over my glass…

fantastic results.
ABS sticks to it when warm… detaches by itself when cold. Bottom layers are beautiful.

tried with PLA… it sticks good as well.
bottom of the prints are shiny… have some mirror effect if you ask me (it is not really noticeable in the pictures)

don’t ask me what this stuff is made of… i just know is johnson brand. Some internet sources says automotive window film is PET… some other said acrylic with some additives… either way this works.

(Brown is ABS, black is PLA)…

Looks nice. What bed temps are you using with it for the ABS and PLA?

100 C° for ABS
60C° for PLA… but i turn off the bed after second layer on PLA… will test PLA on cold window film and check the results… but now it’s printing

Can you post a pic of the box of film?

i never got the box of the film…

automotive window film comes in big rolls and is sold by yard/feet

… finally got my answer:

The stuff is made of:
Polymerized Polyacrylate Resin 9%
Polyethylene Terephthlalate Film 87%
Polymerized Polyester Resin 4%
so this is just a cheap source of PET.
