I finally joined the club! I don’t have to be just a lurker anymore!
I got my @Printrbot Simple today to hold me over and help me learn until I get my RigidBot.
I’m enjoying putting it together, but the instructions aren’t the best. I’m thinking of redoing them and sending them in for @Printrbot consideration and inclusion. I’ve done a fair bit of technical writing for work; these instructions would be easy. Though, if I need any new photos, I’m out of luck; mine will be assembled already!

Awesome! Fine choice, sir

Have fun!

Nice

Can’t wait to see the build process and how your prints come out

A simple…look at my pictures - I also have 1

Congrats! I just got my increased build volume kit and tall tower kit for my Simple. Looking forward to 224 sweet cc’s of build volume.

@Patrick_Ryan 224cc huh? With the RigidBot, looks like my next build volume upgrade will be to 1000 cu. in.! I don’t foresee ever building something that large.
Baby steps first. I’ll probably be asking a lot of questions here as soon as I get my Simple built.

Sorry, meant cubic inches - derp. It’ll be ~3600 cc’s, as opposed to the base Simple at ~43 cubic inches / 700 cc’s. I’ve pretty much decided that my next build will be a Simpson (if and when @Nicholas_Seward releases the files!) at over 600 cubic inches (10 litres) which should be sufficient for my purposes. For now.

@Patrick_Ryan That’s a nice upgrade, especially for the Simple! I’ve had my eye on the Simpson and the Wally for a while. If I ever get enough skill, I may have to print and build at least one of them.

@Carlton_Dodd I’m sort of viewing the Simple as a bit of a RepStrap, especially with the increased build volume. The base Simple won’t be able to print the Simpson components, but I should be good to go once I install the new kit.

@Patrick_Ryan It’s an awesome concept; building a machine to build larger, but similar machine.
Will you be reusing the motors, etc. from your Simple, or buying new ones? I’m not sure I could bring myself to break down a printer I had built.

@Carlton_Dodd That’s my feeling right now. I think I’m going to buy all new hardware so that I’ll have two operational printers. I might change my mind on that once the Simpson is up and running, but we’ll see. I’ve started to spec out my BOM for the Simpson and am sufficiently satisfied with the price point - about $400 for everything, assuming I print all the components myself - that I don’t feel an overwhelming need to sacrifice my Simple.

If you like the Printrbot family, I definitely recommend following some of Jerrill Johnson’s blogs. He has done some phenomenal work with small nozzles and high resolution prints. I’m still at entry level too, but chasing the same ideal.
Once you are comfortable with your calibrations and have read up, he sells some of his fine point nozzles on his store at Jerrill.com
