I’m not a fan of “magic” numbers. I’ve switched to volumetric and hardware retraction. As per triffld’s calibration guide. So all you have to do when changing filament is measure and do an M200 D2.95, or whatever your new filament diameter is. Now I can use the same gcode on all my machines, regardless or filament, providing the nozzle size is the same.

@Nils_S You should also take a look at firmware based retraction - it’s another big timesaver when you are switching materials and need different retraction parameters…

Yup, that’s what I meant by hardware retraction. I have it running on both smoothie and marlin. Thanks for the video, you can never have enough calibration videos :slight_smile:

@Nils_S LOL - too early and not enough coffee yet! I misread your comment and saw only the volumetric extrusion bit! :slight_smile: As an FYI, on the latest Smoothie Edge, you can send a M200 without “D” and it will return the D value…
