I found these ESP D1 Mini units on Amazon, $6 each. Perfect for a few LED projects I am working on. The Demo100 ESP web server code is working quite well also.
Yes, I sell similar clones here in the UK on eBay. They’re copies of the V1 WeMos boards
Can you provide the amazon link please
@dushyant - Yep, an Amazon search for ‘ESP D1 Mini’ yields no results for me. Nor does WeMOS D1 Mini. Close, but no cigar. Ebay has something though.
This is what I Purchased
Is anyone using the ESP units? I am seeing noise at the end of the LED strings, no matter how long.
Does any one have a fix?

@DigitalJax Try disabling interrupts. Put this before the include of the library. #define FASTLED_ALLOW_INTERRUPTS 0
Use the https://github.com/Makuna/NeoPixelBus or https://github.com/cnlohr/esp8266ws2812i2s Library . It uses the I²S-Module in DMA-mode to produce the WS2812 signal. Because of the use of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_memory_access almost no CPU is necessary.
But be aware of this limitation: https://github.com/Makuna/NeoPixelBus/wiki/FAQ-%231

These are $3.90c(AUD) on Aliexpress I order them in batches of 50 for my products. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/ESP8266-NodeMcu-Lua-WIFI-board-D1-mini-version/32727167467.html?spm=2114.13010208.99999999.264.fKIabj they are “clones” but they work perfectly. I have had 1 out of hundreds that arrived with a dodgy LED(but the device still worked perfectly)
So, do they work with FastLED then, or do you need to use an alternate? I want these for my stocking I think.
yeah fucking cool are those chips packets, i also got a lot of them, in al different sizes and from old to the newest, ESP8266 its called. i build a door alarm e mail sms notafier with it, and also a mailbox notivier.
@Peter_Buelow yes, they work great. And @DigitalJax maybe think about pastebin, rather than posting your entire sketch on here…
Check out the Wifi Connection Manager library - much easier and, imo, better than coding your wifi connect in sketch: https://tzapu.com/esp8266-wifi-connection-manager-library-arduino-ide/
And FWIW, I’ve used the NodeMCU and WeMos D1 Mini Pro and can’t ever see me going back to using the NodeMCU again. The WeMos unit is great and has some off-the-shelf plug and play accessories, like a tiny oled display, a relay, a battery module and a WS2812B. And they’re cheap! Afaik they are using the latest iteration of the ESP - ESP8266FX. You can buy direct from WeMos - great packing and despatch and they give you a full set of long and short pins and sockets(?) with each module
@DigitalJax buy direct from WeMos - much less than $8 ea, and guaranteed to be the genuine article
