I got this hat done late last year, just in time for Above & Beyond’s Common Ground tour kick off in LA. I should have posted sooner, but many thanks to @Sven_Eric_Nielsen for pointing me to the Sprite library, it worked great!
As a recap, this is 722 neopixels glued onto a thin foam backing which is then wrapped around my top hat and secured with elastic straps in the back. I’m using a Teensy 3.2 and wired up a battery supply for the LEDs and one for the controller. It lasts 6+ hours which is great.
I put about 13 different sprites on the hat, all flowing through a routine and restarting over again. It was a hit at the shows. What I love about it is that I can change/update the sprites to other artists’ logos for those events, so its multi functional!
Here’s a video it it which has been fast-forwarded so make it shorted. Hope you like!
Well done. I hope I’ll finish my hat sooner or later as well and present it here. But I always have the problem to get new ideas and see new amazing and inspiring things from other people. So many of my projects never reach the end
Great stuff !! @Tim_Lukasik what kind of power supply did u use ?
@Yves_BAZIN 2400mAh lipoly batteries, one from LEDs one for controller. The brightness is set around 30% and it lasts around 6 hours
@Tim_Lukasik thx for the tip
Is your code with the A&B sprites available somewhere? i want to make an LED display for my room for EDM visuals.
@Michal_Hipner I will post it soon and let you know
This looks great. Looking forward to the code.
@Michal_Hipner @Michael_Clark Here’s the code. I’m not a programmer, this is all a hobby for me so I’m sure there’s far better ways to do this programming, but it works!
Let me know what you think.
Yay! Something new to try. Thanks.
Nice to see I’m not the only person bringing neopixels to trance events. hopefully we’ll run into one another at some point (I’m in SF area). You won’t miss me if we go to the same event one day
