I guess I should explain why identical length matters in my previous post. I am using that length to transfer measurements throughout the two pieces. I Center punched one spot, then used a spud in the chuck to align it as best as I could. Now using a stop block I will position each piece, and spot drill the location of where I will drill. Keeping orientation the same, the holes should all come out in the same place. I just need to flip the pieces around end for end to maintain the same hole location.
Obviously, spud in this case is not pertaining to a potato.

it’s my spudy buddy. A spud is the best way I’ve found so far to line up a center punched hole to drill. Spuds really get to the point of matters.
