I have a couple of APA102 strips on order, have a few questions:

  1. What’s the max SPI clock frequency? Is it the 1MHz PWM clock, or can I clock faster?
  2. Can I send an all white pixel at max brightness (which would be 32 bits at all ones), or would that be confused with the end of frame signal?

APA102 has a max frequency of 20Mhz, but it is highly dependent on perfect conditions and perfect strip layout. Most strips I have tried max out at about 10-15 if they are longer then 2 meters. Make sure you have a sufficient power supply as well! Yes you can send out all white! if you have a lot of pixels, you may want to put on your sun glasses

Long ago, the default for APA102 on Teensy was 24 MHz. Many people had issues when using more than about 100 LEDs. Changing the default to 12 MHz has worked much, much better.
