I have a question about auto leveling. When using an inductive sensor, can it detect a metal print bed under a piece of glass? As well, what firmware would be the easiest (or best) to configure for auto bed leveling? I have a spare Smoothieboard and Ramps 1.4/Arduino combo available to use as a controller.
Marlin 1.1.0 was just released and has great auto bed levelling options, and supports many types of probes, including inductive. It will detect the metal under the glass.
I think I tested alum foil under the borosilicate one time and it worked
Depends on the glass thickness and depends on the sensor. A typical SN-04 sensor doesn’t sense that well if the glass is at or greater than 3mm thick. I used to define specific probe points on the outer edge of my bed and have the probe hit those points only. Just put some aluminum tape on the edge. Worked quite well
