I have a wanhoa I3 3d printer and use it to print lithophanes for customers.

Recently the machine has started creating a lot of under extrusions at random layers.

I checked if the nozle is blocked and cleaned it a couple of times but to no avail.

I tried playing around with the retraction, but does not seem to work. Currently retraction is at 6.5mm @ 25mm/s speed.

Any ideas or suggestions. Attached a picture of the under extrusion.

Check the extruder drive gear for plastic gunk etc that might cause intermittent slippage?

is the hotend temp. constant maybe check if the thermo couple became loose

For Lithophanes, I hope retraction is not required. Also, 6.5mm seems very high. Max of 5 will be good

@Stephen_L I did check the gears, infact I cleaned the whole machine, bearings and everything.

@Googolplex_Goku The temp readings are prettystable, not sure if that could be a problem

@Selvakumaran_Ganesan I tried a print with 0 retraction but it dint come out well, retraction is very much required.

@Hussain_Bhavnagarwal For me it worked but with strings. Also, the same issues happened me randomly for some lithophanes. Some turned out greater and some like this kind of issues.

Are those under extrusions or bubbles? Have you changed filament brand? has the quality changed? What about humidity changes? Seasonal changes?

@Alex_Wiebe I live in an extremely humid city. It does make the filament brittle really fast. But am using a relatively new spool and keep it in an air tight container when not in use.

@Selvakumaran_Ganesan Ya I have expereinced lots of stringing issues which end up destroying the quality.
