I have been enjoying seeing everyone else’s projects so it is time I posted my own! My partner and I have been working on a light up hula hoop and we finally have one up and running.
The colour pattern is a rainbow that slowly rotates around the hoop. Using the HSV transform in FASTLed was a huge help. It allowed me to create a smooth transition between each colour with out much trouble. I can dig up the code and post it if anyone is interested.
We took the hoop down to Shambala Music Festival and had a blast everything worked well and people loved it!
Great! This is one of my next projects
Do you have a blog post about how you made it ? I’m wondering about the weight of the battery and how it would affect the feeling of the hoop…
Here is a link to get images on pois, I think it should be adaptable for hoops to get great POV effects http://orchardelica.com/wp/displaying-led-graphic-poi-bmp-from-sd-card
Super cool! I’d love to see the code.
Thanks!
The battery in this one did not change the weight very much, but it was just a AA size LiPo. I am going to rebuild the battery holder for a 18650 which may need some counterbalancing. I have been meaning to do a write up on how I built it, when I get off my ass I will post it here as well.
Very nice. I think you could probably put a battery on opposite sides of the hoop to balance it? There’s no reason you can’t feed power in on both ends of the led strip, in fact some people recommend it for long strips. There might be two downsides: I’m not sure how you would change the battery (or do you have a connection for charging, so you don’t have to open it?) and there would be a gap in the lights - but there already is.
