I have d to been thinking of getting a 3d printer and to learn more about it first. Can anyone point me in the right direction? What model do you use?
I am using an ultimaker, one of the early batches. They are pretty fast, but take a bit of tinkering to get the best results. Software changed a lot, but hardware still remains almost the same…
@Frank_Tocco Usually I make sculptures out of it in really high resolution (like 50 micron layers) but I also made some stuff that my girlfriend can use when I am away
I have seen also a complete robothand printed out of the machine at quite a fast pace.
Note that an ultimaker can print at 20 microns, while the competition usually says 100 microns for high resolution. If you dont care about the high resolution but just want speed, this youtube movie can show you how fast an ultimaker can go: http://youtu.be/FjzW6FT0-tg (note that it is already 2 years old and I produced it on a prototype, but still)
Not really. It has more to do with the flowrate actually. I can go very fast on high resolution, however it will increase the possibility of the flowrate getting too high and damage the print instead. With high resolution you want to have high quality prints, so you automatically print slower. Its possible to print high speed with high resolution, however it will increase the error rate too…
