I have finished a project I made for Christmas. I can post a video maybe later. But I have only found a small handfull of good code for strip. I have bought 144/M WS2812B strips and cut them down to 7 and soldiered double in stuck them inside 2 half 3D printed sphere’s all connected to JST connectors ran to a computer power supply with the Arduino mounted on top of it. I wanted to have (8) made but I only came up with (7) because of how hard it is to solider together everything is and how fragile that signal cable can be. Also DON’T soldier with power running! Another thing I found out was that you can’t break the strips right on the cut line cause you can never get a good hold on the soldier so you HAVE to cut on the outside and loose a whole LED in the process. That’s the trick I found out to make it work. Also 3D printing the Sphere’s are 12 hours for a half. So give me a little while to gather up some pics and vid of it working. But I am asking for some code anybody comes up with if they would like me to try? Yes I went through all the DEMO code. I am thinking about adding a audio input control. But atm just arduino code. It might be another month til I can get the 12 I want made.
Sounds like fun. No code but I would approach it by creating a class for a ball with a constructor to set the number of leds and a method to set color in hsv, and one to set color in rgb, and then modify fast led demo examples to use your balls instead of leds.
Yes, having to burn a pixel when cutting because the solder pads are so small is definitely a disadvantage of using 144pixels/meter strips.
