I have issue with my Z stepper motors on Prusa Mendel. I noticed few times that my prints failed because printer would stop moving up a layer.
I just noticed that again and I rotated both Z axis motors few degrees and next layers were working fine.
Anyone have idea why would step motors stop/stuck and move after they were moved off that state?

Not enough current. Give them some more.

Could also be too much current so it overheats and miss a step. I also had a weird issue on my printrbot where they y axis missed some steps 90% through a print - turns out it was loose connectors, I had to bend the pins a little so that they make consistant good contact.

Thank you, I try to adjust gain settings in driver, driver’s heat sink is cold, probably because it so rare to move z axis.
Any good ways to test gain value on prusa mendel (with 2 motors on z axis)? I set it by lowering gain from high to low unitl motors start to move.

Also I think it is time to fix cable mess.
