I have questions I can’t seem to find the answers to. LaserWeb claims to be a “web based” program.

  1. What does “web based” actually mean?
  2. Do I need an internet connection?
  3. Why does controlling a laser cutter need anything “web based”?

Thanks.

  1. Is using HTML5/JS languages, running on a Chromium (web browser) engine. Then packed on native app for Linux, Mac and Windows. It uses also Chromium engine to connect machines via NodeJS
  2. Only if you want to get update notices.
  3. Does not need at all. Is just the technology with the app has been build up.

You are welcome

Chris maybe the term should be updated. LW2 was web based in the sense that it was hosted on the cloud. LW4 uses chrome as it’s base and that’s it. No internet connection or network needed for LW4

Thanks guys!
That makes some sense. I am investigating the possibility of LW on a RPi 3 for my K-40. The terminology had me a little concerned.

Other users do RPI3 successfully, running the backend on PI (lw.comm-server) and running the frontend on laptop or designated computer, as using Chrome on PI makes it run poorly.

Got it! Sounds like the RPi is no real advantage. LW and GRBL-LPC should do the trick then.
