I have some RGB shades that I got from Kickstarter. Everytime I power them up they all the LEDs turn blue and then the patterns begin to show. I have added a step to clear the variables to cleat the screen and it works in other functions. Any ideas on what might be causing this? I am using a LiPo battery that is only at ~4v. Perhaps the lower than 5v causes the ws2812 chip to initialize badly?
I’ve had this happen with a wee grid layout of the little through-hole style WS2812s as well, it happens when power alone is applied and no microcontroller is connected too. I suspect there’s something can be done with a resistor or cap but I’ve not tried yet. It definitely happens with power alone though so it’s not a software/controller issue.
that makes sense… its only for the period of time that the controller is coming up. I route the power to the LEDs separate from the mcu…
Looks like your LiPo can’t supply enough power, according to the Troubleshooting section of the docs: http://docs.macetech.com/doku.php/rgb_shades#troubleshooting
After it starts up everything is good… different than the troubleshooting guide indicates
