I haven’t wired my printer up to the replicape yet. I wanted to get the OS ready before adding another variable. On boot, the octoprint service fails to start:

Is this the latest Kamikaze? What date is the image?

It’s the 1/5/16 build.

That is the version I am using with no to little issues. Some permission issues and a pip module error that only seemed to affect plugins. Did you do a apt-get update / upgrade? I think I tried that once and it broke stuff.

I did several apt upgrades. I didn’t see it mentioned that we couldn’t patch the OS.

Not that we can’t but the image is so new something may be changing with the updates. Try again without doing an OS upgrade. I have two running from the same image. The only thing I have stayed away from us the is upgrade because I saw issues the first time I tried.

Ah, OK, that explains it! Hm… Is there a way to “lock” python packages? Octoprint is pretty particular about the libraries, so an upgrade will most likely break things yes. But we do need to find a way to let people upgrade.

I might change directions and go with a jessie install then install the Thing-Printer binaries. As long as I can get the replicape to init, getting the third party tools running shouldn’t be a problem.

Not knocking Kamikaze, BTW.

Sure! Feel free to do that! The big difference is related to getting Toggle to run, so if you do not need that, it might be a good idea. You also need Octoprint and Cura Engine, though.

Does this mean the cape is loaded?

I tried to fix the prio 0 error by installing device-tree-overlays from the thing repo, followed by enabling the cape in uEnv.txt and running update-initramfs. NoGo.

Which board do you have? It looks like it saw a B3 and an override A4.

Although we had problems writing the eeprom on my friends board but finally got it written and he showed an override on #4 but it was a B3 on both slots so it didn’t seem to cause a problem as it said the board was already loaded.

I tried to interpret the Angstrom fix for Debian by installing the only package in the thing printer repo that mentions overlays. Doesn’t look like it worked.

Have you tried the new 01-05-2016 kamikazi image? That is what I am running. It has a few minor issues with a pip module that keeps octoprint from updating plugins.
