What’s wrong with makerbot? I’m new to 3D printing.
Despite the MakerBot bashing, i like what the teacher is trying to do for his students. Are there no 3d printing companies that offer the same education package like Makerbot?
@Mark_Larsen they helped build the open source community, then turned around and are trying to patent and steal the community’s work and shut everyone out of it.
@Chris_Lau I agree, it’s a great idea, just the worst possible company given the current state of affairs. That’s why I recommend Reading Rainbow’s current fund raising campaign for the moment. Just as helpful to children, without the theft and lies.

@Mark_Larsen pretty much. They own Thingverse, and a while back (before this stuff started happening) they updated their TOS so that anything anyone uploads they can claim as their own. Now they’re actually doing just that and patenting things people have uploaded.
@Printrbot has an edu package too and for the price of one TakerBot you can get approx 6-8 printrbots
Support a different printer company… seriously, makerbot has been really sketchy and also has inferior quality printers… ultimaker/printrbot/deezmaker/deltamaker… any of these companies make better printers for lower costs and have more community friendly attitudes… makerbot is only concerned with profit margins at this point…
Even without a discount(i think they do have one) you can buy 4 assembled metal printrbot simple with auto leveling, and plug and play Windows 8.1 drivers for the cost of I’ve 5th gen(latest makerbot) even with makerbots educational discount.
And printrbot has an educational program as well. Deltamaker has helped schools in their area…
As a educator you need to be teaching that plagiarism is wrong and makerbot had plagiarized several ideas that are open-source and tried to patent them.
