I just got back from MRRF (Midwest RepRap Festival).

I just got back from MRRF (Midwest RepRap Festival). It took me 13.55 gallons of gas. I forgot to refill half way back, so I was running on fumes. Here are some pictures. I should have taken pictures sooner. There are duplicates because you never know when a photo will turn out fuzzy.

@Joe_Spanier had a massive rocket printing 3D printer set up. I wonder how much Z wobble if any he had on the threaded rod. It looked like it was the cheap stuff from the hardware store. It worked pretty good considering. Joe, let me know if that 3mm filament turns out to be crappy so I can avoid buying from them. For whoever is wondering, I bought the wrong stuff, so I just gave it to Joe.

@ThantiK you dissappeared right before I was going to try to get a group picture of you, me and @Joe_Spanier . You stinker you. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sadly, I did not get my name tag and lanyard till day 2. The girl that checked me in did not tell me that I had them waiting for me. I pre-registered by about 4 days.

I tried friction welding while I was there. It seems to work okay for ABS but not for PETG. On PETG, the spun plastic seems to turn to powder instead of melding with the part.

@NathanielStenzel – re the picture – I have NO IDEA WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT! – nope! Not me!

@NathanielStenzel Re: Z wobble on the rocket printer: I doubt there was much, if any. I don’t remember if the Z axis was driven by belts or screws, but it ran on rigidly mounted, supported linear bearing shafting. Not mounted just at the ends, but supported all the way up. It looked like maybe 20 mm shafting.

Yeah, there was no Z wobble on the rocket printer. What was happening was the print was sped up as much as it could possibly be, and you were seeing filament curling on the edges.

@ThantiK I corrected the typo. I was hoping for a picture of you, me and Joe Spanier.

@NathanielStenzel , I don’t really do…photos…

@ThantiK ah…so in other words, you ran. Gotcha. You could have said so. My mom has always been like that. I would understand.
