I just got my shapeoko 3 and was wanting to cut carbon fiber with it what is the best way to hold the carbon down while cutting?
when I did it on my SO2, I actually used some 3m spray adhesive to stick it too a sheet of mdf and then clamped the mdf down. I needed to use every extremity of the carbon sheet i was using so couldn’t clamp the carbon down by itself. make sure you have a solid dust extraction solution, carbon dust is nasty stuff…
@Nick_Charlton
I would be afraid the spray adhesive would stick to the carbon afterward and leave a nasty residue. What do u think? I am going to try to do some kind of dust collection system.
Well I used the 3m photomount I think which is designed for paper and so I found that it just peeled off the carbon when I was done because the carbon has such a shiny surface. Dust collection is a must. I used a vacuum cleaner with th e nozzle held as close to the end mill as possible to make sure no dust escaped!
Also I think 3m make a spray that is designed to be a tempory adhesive and so peels off easily…?!
@Nick_Charlton
I will look into it thanks for the help!
The 3m spray adhesive can be wiped off with acetone if it doesn’t all peel off.
