I just printed a full scale version of @Bethany_Weeks tardigrade 3D model, and I must say:
It deserves a full scale model, my prior models were 2/3 and 3/4 scale and they didn’t do the fine details justice.
@Bethany_Weeks made it, it’s on Thingiverse:
Isn’t a full scale tardigrade like 0.3 to 0.5mm in length?
That one is HUGE.
Real tardigrades are about 0.5 millimeters, full scale refers to the model, I’ve printed a few before in 2/3 and 3/4 of the model scale, which doesn’t do justice to the model, it has tons of details that only show up properly when printed in full scale.
Haha itz funny that you made one of thoze… scientific america had a report about them lazt month and how they took them to space…
Yeah, they were taken into space back in 2007 (and again later) and exposed to hard vacuum and cosmic radiation (although still in the relative safety of low Earth orbit) for 10 days and more than half of them survived, hardy little buggers
@Christian_Ohlendorff there are only two speciez that can regenerate over decadez… the algea eating onez and lichen eaterz… they believe itz due to their diet and atmospheric changez over centuriez…
