I just realized that the male/female CCTV power jacks I’ve been using are only rated for 6A, and am not readily finding a replacement. What power jacks are people here using to connect their power supplies to larger LED projects?
I am using 12A power supplies on a couple projects I intend to install in my home, and also have a 20A and 40A supply I plan to use for some DIY matrices down the road, and I’m not comfortable using an underrated power jack…
Look at neutrik speakon connections used in hi power speakers. I believe the commercial LED systems use these to carry high amperage power to panels
hmmm, the neutrik’s are crazy expensive…and still only rated for 13A. I know there are a bunch of people here with high power projects. What is everyone using? Are the generic CCTV jacks acceptable?
I like “Anderson Power Pole” they come in several sizes. I use the 30A. But you can get them rated higher. Work well with 12 AWG zipper wire. You can fit 10 AWG into the 30A connector but it is a pain.
My bad it’s the neutrik powercon connectors and I believe that’s what some of the other DJ LED matrices use for power
You’re right they’re not cheap but they are designed for the job for quick Connect and release.
You could also look at some of the Molex power connectors commonly used in computer systems
Take a look at the various different kinds of RC vehicle battery connectors, some of them have pretty crazy high ratings (due to the power needed for drive motors)
Also look at solar connectors, they’re waterproof and rated to 30 amps and cheap
I use XT60 for RC planes, should be plenty
I got some of the anderson power poles…a bit more expensive because I had to buy the crimper, but not too bad. Thanks for all the suggestions! Glad I figured this out before installing lighting in my living room instead of after…
@Mike_Clifford I never did get the crimper. I just use my normal ring terminal crimpers. I destroyed a few before I figured out how to squish them without bending them to the point where they bulge out and won’t fit into the housing.
