I just received a sainsmart lcd controller, but it only works with the usb cable connected to the pc?!?!

Any ideas?

I assume you have ramps… did you connected D2 diode?

Sorry, my bad. I do have a ramps 1.4.
I do have a diode on D2 (it came that way).
When I tried it on a different ramps board it turns on using just the power supply (no usb cable) but now gets the characters all black…

I´m using marlin version of jcrocholl

Hum…it must be an hardware issue…i just found the sainsmart version of marlin and the LCD it works fine with the usb cable on, disconnect it and no power…

Do you have the jumper set to input power? There’s a jumper on there for USB or 12v power - the board will shut off microcontroller logic without USB attached if the jumper is in the wrong spot. If you swap it, a little 5v regulator will take over providing logic power.

It seems I don´t have one diode on the D1.
But I exchanged boards for now, so the only thing left for me to find out is getting the encoder rotation to work!
