I just received my heated bed in the mail for my PB Simple Metal.

I just received my heated bed in the mail for my PB Simple Metal. I ordered some kapton squares with it. I’m wondering. Do I still need glue stick with the kapton?

A guy at work had the same setup and uses glue stick with kapton bit had been using the kapton square that came with his heated bed over a year ago.

I just don’t want to waste the kapton. That stuff is expensive.

Thanks for any input.

You shouldn’t

You ought to check out a product called 3D-EEZ. Won’t need the Kapton at all.

I have the simple with heated bed and Kapton and use a light coat of hairspray for ABS and use glue stick for Nylon.

I use kapton and typically get 3 or 4 prints before replacing it, no glue needed

Wow only 3-4 prints. I’ve got hundreds of hours over the span of 1.5 years on the original Kapton on my metal simple.

Are you using the thin Kapton that comes on a roll?

@Raymond_Blum I get hundreds of prints on my kapton if you use glue stick or hair spray for prep.

@John_Car That’s the opposite of what I expected - I supposed that the accumulating adhesive residue would make it worse.

@Michael_Spano_Jr_Ama yes

After a few prints you use acetone to clean the tape and apply a light coat of hairspray. If you are printing nylon than use glue stick and clean with water.

@Raymond_Blum you may want to grab a Kapton sheet. It is thicker and more durable. I have also seen people express fondness of buildtak. I’ve never used it but it looks interesting. Regardless, I use hairspray on my Kapton and just wipe it clean with rubbing alcohol.

I have had a lot of success with buildtak or equivalent and glue stick. Mostly pla, but worked with abs too. Also on pla, I heat the bed to 55-60 for the first layer and off (10) for all layers after that.

I have the square that came with the heated bed. I ordered a 3 pack from them as well just in case. I print with PLA right now.

@Keith_Applegarth I second the 3D-EEZ! Works like a charm!!! I applied 3 coats to the glass on my Eustathios Spider V2. Let it try and your good to go. Once your print is done you remove it and starting printing again right away. Good stuff!!!

Kyle like your one eyed mug shot. You belong to the club??

No glue stick. Use hairspray and then alcohol to clean the bed after each print. Also I’d recommend buying a roll of kapton instead of the expensive squares. I use http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DPEXKSW?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

Long story short. Once you have been printing for a while you learn what you like and what works best for your style. Some really good ideas on here though! I’m sure you will find what best fits for you
