I know I'm not the only one with a collection of old 3D printers

I know I’m not the only one with a collection of old 3D printers but the question is what do you do with them?

On campus I have 2 Cupcakes well beyond any usability that sit in my office and a MakerGear Prusa that the students trashed in a semester. At home I have a first gen MakerGear Mosaic that is worn out after writing a book with it, a Rostock Mini that I never bothered to see through its birthing pains, an ORD bot used in an art exhibition but has been (mechanically) a pain in the ass, and a first gen Printrbot Jr that, while being a shockingly good machine, after numerous trips in my carry on back and forth to both coasts is also just plain worn out.

So what would you do with these things? I can’t part with them and the thought of tearing them down seems sacrilegious somehow. Is there a heaven for worn out 3D printers?

Donate them to an emerging makerspace or a school

cannibalize them and build your own master race of desktop 3d printers

The Simple maker’s kit 1405 upgrade is really cheap right now… The jr is a good candidate and maybe others. You would need some screws and nuts and a few other things but the cheapest way to get some more life out of a tired bot. Just a thought.

I’d gladly take them all off your hands

I will take care of them I promise jaja

Our extra parts are gifts for the emergent new 3/ders. Find some that want to build but cant afford. Even broken can still do.Good luck.
