I know it doesn’t look like much but PLA filastruding for the win! After all the trouble we had with ABS we are very encouraged!
Tell us how the prints come out, and the quality of the filament when you can. I’m pretty interested in recycling prints.
We’re actually still cleaning out our metal shavings from the auger so we’re not going to use this. We had such a large plug in the ABS that we had to take the nozzle off and start again. And we’re taking the opportunity to add a few color pellets just for fun 
So far all we’ve heard is that PLA is more difficult than ABS in both extruding and printing but we’ve found nothing but the opposite - PLA had been easier for us in both accounts. When we get to printing with our extruded products I’ll let you know.
PLA prints easy
Who in the world told you PLA was more difficult to print? Whoever they are, they’re an imbecile.
@ThantiK It’s possibly just an issue of conflicting information and dated material. If you look back at the older stuff there are summaries and opinions which don’t apply with current designs and some historical documents and references or guides may be out of date.
PLA is easier… But calling someone an imbecile for that is a bit harsh +Anthony Morris…
It seems that most I the opinions I find suggest that ABS is easier than PLA but do not seem to contain facts to back it up. You are probably correct about it being old information, but when the oldest documentation is just a few years back, it is tough for a newby like myself to differentiate…
Anyhow, great work on the recycling. I look forward to hearing more.
@John_Chan_Madox you’re probably right, I may have been overly harsh. I guess given a specific hot end, (one not properly engineered) PLA could be much harder (if not impossible) to print than ABS, given that ABS flows better at its glass transition temperature.
The only other convenience of ABS compared to PLA I can think of is with cleaning the extruder head with solvents… Though I haven’t had the need to clean with PLA…
