I know quite a few of the folks in this group are going to Burning Man, at least myself, @Jason_Decker , @Chris_Hoban1 and maybe a few others. If you’re going where are you camping? Maybe do a glow-up on say… friday at one of the big sound camps.
I’m pretty much brain-fried at the moment so I’ll be less than useful in planning anything… but I’ll be a happy lemming.
I typically lemming as well, I know we’ll be seeing eachother b/c of the ship… but there have to be quite a few LED obsessed burners using this library, because it is the de-facto best one out right now for working w\ addressable strip.
Yeah, even the old library is still the bees knees compared to alternatives :P. That said I’m up and down for some kind of glow meet up on friday night
I have a few wearables that can “steal” modes from other people highlander style, and I may do just that
@Chris_Hoban do explain the highlander thing
I’m basically using a color sensor in the palm for my LED Gauntlets (there is a 5 by 13 LED matrix under the fur, plus one more LED that displays the color my sensor currently sees). If I put it in “read” mode I face my hand towards something glowy and it records about 50 color readings per second to the EEPROM of the arduino, while simultaneously playing what its recording up the arm… making for a pretty sweet “color/mode absorbing effect”. With all the other modes I have programmed into the gauntlet, they all have the ability to “play back” whats recorded in the same sequence of colors. So for a mode where boxes are flying out at you, the boxes would change colors at the same times as what I recorded from etc, so even though I’m only really taking like a linear representation of whatever mode, I can still do fancy stuff with it. I want to get some wireless communication between items too so I can get my whole costume to react instead of just 2 gauntlets, but the burn is almost upon us :P.
nice! what manufacture/model sensor are you using? I didn’t realize they had color sensors that could read that fast, really opens up a wealth of ideas in my head
holy shit that is SICK! Great idea!!!
I’m using this guy: http://www.adafruit.com/products/1356
I’m using the library they wrote as well, It works fairly well in the daytime at close range, or with the “reflecting” LED turned on to read non glowy colors also. I do a bit of color correction on the readings themselves to get more vibrance/saturation as the sensor tends to add more white/gray then the eye sees… There is also a bit of messing around with different combinations of sensor gain and integration time (basically like ISO and shutter speed) to get the right color quality in low light. It does as quick as 2.4ms reading though so theoretically ~400 readings per second is possible, though probably less when doing other things.
Wait… gauntlets and fur??? You, good sir, are riding on the Death Ship and you are syncing yourself to whatever it’s doing. And/or controlling it.
Niiice! Yeah I’m stoked to see this ship in action!
hahahahahah brilliant
Wow, can’t wait to witness that myself.
Figures that this would be the year I decide to take off from going to Burningman, after having gone every year since 2003 (10 trips to the playa, 11 burns of the man
Figures one of the big contributors to a library for blinky things is a burner
@Daniel_Garcia Maybe you could still do a quick weekend burn? There will probably be cheap tickets floating around (albeit with the chance of being scalped, they would definitely be taking a hit money wise by then anyways). This is burn 5 for me
FYI, Been using the library for some work on the lighting for our Art Car.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/suspendedanimation/rope-suspension-bed-20-the-art-car. So far it has been working out pretty awesome.
This library has been so much easier to use than when I did my coat about 3 years ago: http://rgbledcoat.blogspot.com/
Feel free to swing by our camp at 7:30 & B and ask for Curly. I will unfortunately be occupied Friday night
@Arren_Parker We’re either right next to you or right across the street. B@7:45. Can’t wait to check out your car.
@Jason_Decker Was Looking at your guys project just a few days ago. Look forward to seeing the Blazing Death Ship on the playa!
We are still very much figuring out how the lighting will work. Our main focus has been on Structural and Drive systems, and are just now switching to lighting design. Our simplified idea right now is to run it around the arches, and have some interior lighting as well. Then have some communication between the drive system and the lighting to coordinate when we are moving.
Edit: You will likely be over a bit on B. We are right on the corner of 7:30 & B, on the 7:00 side. You can’t miss our giant black shade structure.
This just landed on the JRS:
LED HOOPJAM AT THE MAN
Dancing Mandy invites us all to hoop jam at the Man!
"Hoopcamp’s Magical Midnight Mayhem comes to the Playa. Let’s prepare the man for lift-off by circling him with hundreds of flow artists with their LED toys!
Look for Walter, the big VW Bus Art Car. Meet at the Man on the 6:00 side with your LED hoops/poi/staff on Wed. night at 11pm. Hoopcamp Heather will be there to facilitate our circling around the man as we ‘dance our light’ in a big way, spinning magical colors in a connected circle of Hoop Dancers. Come join our dazzling light parade!
