I made a trailer to showcase my latest print

So epic hahaha

Some context - eskom is out national electicity provider and we have frequent rolling blackouts. I had a powercut 42 hours into the print and had to recover it. Its in amother video.

Oh man that trailer was awesome lol

Total print time was 68 hours.

How much filament did you use? And was this scaled at all?

It’s the big hairy lion printed at the size in the file. I could scale it bigger on the machine but it’s plenty big enough. Used 3 rolls of filament. Cura initially estimated 4,6kg. I reduced it by lowering the infill for the lower 120mm of the body to 10% and a single shell. That was printed on a machine with a 0.4mm nozzle the upper body was printed with a 0.8mm nozzle.

The downside of the larger nozzle apart from loss of resolution is that you need to print slower to keep the filament flowing smoothly. The machine doesnt have a volcano nozzle just a larger dual heater block. But it probably needs to have a larger melt zone to go faster.

Dang thats a lot of PLA. Why not just buy a 5Kg roll next time?

It’s the longest one I’ve done. But it was over 2 printers and 2 parts. So the longer one printer did was only 42 hours as there was a power cut and I had to restart the print. Which then went another 12 hours. But it would have been a 54 hour print and I have no doubt the machine would have done it easily.

The other machine did the 14 hour print for the lower part.

I didn’t want to risk the extruder not being able to pull the roll. I even tried finding the same batch black but it was all finished. The colour change is from the same manufacturer and supplier but a different batch. You can hardly notice looking at it but a picture with flash it’s very clear.

Yeah i see it
