I made silly planters and then waged war with YouMagine’s terrible terrible interface. How do I set the default image? How do I orient the camera to show the object? Why does the 3D editor crash. It’s so bad.

@YouMagine , I want to love you but please fix this. I tried several times to get my design page to look nice, but eventually gave up.

Thanks for giving us a mention so we can see this. It has to do with the memory requirements of loading two 40+ MB files in the browser. Above a certain vertex count we should probably not display the 3D rendering by default or lower its polygon count to allow you to place files in an assembly.
Apart from speed and performance, what if we showed the 3D viewer’s functionality in a feature tour?

@YouMagine , loading the 3D model for every model on your site is a big hit too. You’re serving up multi-mb files, instead of a pre-rendered picture. I’d rather see the 3D viewer opt-in rather than no option at all.

@YouMagine

  1. Ability to set default image is missing
  2. The 3D editor should save the camera position, in addition to the object positions.
  3. The 3D editor should be opt-in, not mandatory.
  4. The 3D editor loads all the STLs into the same volume, which makes no sense. They just get lumped together in the center, making it difficult to isolate and move them.

It’s like Ultimaker/YouMagine started to make a good Thingiverse alternative…and then gave up halfway through.

@Jordy_Schreuders when updating an existing post, the save button is on the first tab. It took me a while to figure out that if I’m changing something in the 3D editor, I have to go BACK to the first tab and press SAVE there or I will lose all my changes.
