I modified the aluminum plate meant for the printrbot. It’s a very heavy piece, weighed 724 grams before. I cut the pocket for the heater 2mm deeper, and removed material around the edges. Saved about 275 grams. I need to take off the heater for exact weight savings.
edited, I weighed it again without the heater.

Bet it heats quicker, too.

Is it still flat?

Yup. I milled it. 3mm of material is plenty strong. It might flex a tiny bit if I try, but its strong enough for this application. I put tape on the top to protect the surface while milling.

A mill. Manual but it gets the job done.

I’d be curious if it warps now that it’s thinner. The makerbot bed is super flat when it comes but warps with heat and time.

I gotta put my printer back together and I’ll post results.

cool Im interested to hear. Hopefully its all good over time.
