I need clarification on something and I think it may be GRBL. it has to do with the height the tool moves at before and after cutting.
With the previous software I had to disconnect and reconnect to the board to get a the home position to 0 so I would set the tip to where I want to cut from raise the tip 10mm and then disconnected and reconnect to the board it would then see that as 0,0,0 I then move the tip down 10mm again and click the work co-ordinate button which would 0 there. when I start the gcode it would then raise 10mm move to the 1st cut possession drop 10mm and plunge to cut. it was a pain but it did that consistently.
Now with LW I position the tip 1mm above where i want to cut. then zero everything and when I click go it seems it will randomly raire or lower to what it things is 0 and then move to where ti wants to cut. problem is sometimes that move will happen a few mm lower than the starting height. I’ve not learnet that it seems to cache the previous Z0 height and go from there even if the point was set to 0,0,0 the only way around it i found is to go to 0 clear the axis disconnect and when i reconnect it shows its at a different height it may think its now at 20 so it will want to drop to -20mm before moving to the starting point. thinking that is zero and then will rais back up to start the cut at the right height. if I zero disconnect reconnected and then zero again disconnect and reconnect it then is at 0,0,0 and will move at that height.
So now I set the 0,0,0 point clear all the co-ordinates. then raise a few mm and clear the co-ordinates again. then I disconnect and reconnect it will show me a seemingly random height. I will clear it again. drop afew mm to the bed and clear the co-ordinates again. then if I cut it raises a few mm moves to cutting spot ans goes from there.
Am I missing something?
