I need some advice.

I need some advice. I have my all metal ubis apart for cleaning while I’m waiting on a new heatsink. What is the best way to clean it?? I have the nozzle and heater section apart and there is some nasty stuff that I want to clean out. Is there a good way to clean it without wire brushing?? I don’t want the risk of getting metal fibers in there nor do I want to wear away the brass.

All comments appreciated.

What plastic do you use in there.

with ABS, you can soak for a few hours in acetone.

The best way to clean it is to put it back together and do a cold pull with nylon.

If you use abs then acetone will work
Just soak the metal parts in a glass jar for a day or so and swish.

Sorry. Forgot to mention that. I print exclusively PLA

I use a acetylene torch the copper wire brush in a dremmel and then cold pull. But that’s a bit extreme and it you get it wrong it goes very wrong. As I found out Pla melts in boiling water. May be worth a try to heat up the parts in boiling water and go at it with a tooth brush.

I use my kitchen gas stove with pliers and gloves, gets the PLA to a liquid form and cleans very easy,

@Alex_Bolderoff Using flames to clean it will leave a burnt residue that will just make the problem worse in the long run.

I’m talking about flaming the outer, those marks can be wiped away

But the metal conducts heat, so the inside will get too hot as well.

we are talking about the tip right? the heat inside is what is needed, hence the fire. the burnt residue, can be cleaned. i only use it when all my other methods are exhausted.

Haven’t needed to disassemble one since I worked that out.

hey, that’s some pretty cool stuff.

Who’s a is right. A cold pull should be all you need.
