I printed myself a new Lever for my motorcycle,

I printed myself a new Lever for my motorcycle, just saved 20 bucks by designing it myself and just print it  it works really well, it’s pla and printed with 100% infill

Be careful as PLA can go soft in the sun.

@Daniel_Bull oh, I’ll keep it in mind, but luckily this is the lever for starting the engine in cold conditions so I guess it won’t be a problem

For exterior/outdoor use → ASA (or some Nylons). PLA and ABS will degrade pretty fast (moisture, radiation, temperature).

take it that is for choke? What bike is it you have?

@Michael_Whitney yup its the Choke, im driving an Yamaha XT

@Tomas_Vit unfortunately I don’t have access to these materials :frowning:

Carefull one cold morning that lever might break. PLA tends to lose mechanical properties with time and environmental factors, sun, light, temperature. ASA is a better choice.

ABS works fine for motorcycle farkles.

Is that the compression release lever?

For a starter, ok! For brakes or something critical, no way! safety critical parts use the most expensive darn filament you can get from the best supplier that is made for that type of part. Taulman Nylons come to mind. Really it is not that expensive, be safe bro just have some of the best engineering grade filament to make a final part after prototyping in PLA. Won’t be expensive used wisely.

I’m pleased to see the hacker spirit, and reccomend you print it in ASA. I don’t envision any real problems except for one. The bloody insurance companies would eat you alive if they knew.

@Paulo_Geraldes thank you all for your nice comments!

i’ll be careful, but this part isnt crucial so it isnt too bad if it snaps
have a nice day!

@Davey_Sapinski its the choke, it changes the mix between air and fuel

@AlohaMilton thank you all for your nice comments!

ill be careful, this part luckily isn’t needed to brake or anything, just to start the motor…
but thanks for all these tips!
i already thought about casting it with aluminium, you know? this LostPla method
do you think it might work?

have a nice day!

@Duncan_Gunn thank you all for your nice comments!
haha  i’ll keep it a secret

@Duncan_Gunn Tbf tho technically any modification from factory is classed as a modification lol think even using a different make of tyre is technically a modification. Tho when I got knocked of my motorcycle they only seemed to care about performance modifications not cosmetic.

@Michael_Whitney
You are quite right, however I know for a fact that when I had a breakdown on the way home with my just purchased K100 they nobbled me for the whole cost of the insurance, cancelled my policy with a pitiful excuse, and destroyed my reputation with lies, so I won’t give an inch to those in the insurance industry now. I’d done everything by the book too. Come the next war my cross-hairs will be aligned.
