I really want to get a real jog dial working with the shapeoko. Something just like they use with the big Tormach machines. I found the exact controller they use with those on Amazon and bought one and have been working to get it working with ChiliPeppr. So far, it seems to work. I have a bit more work to do before I share it, but if folks are interested, please let me know.

Great stuff Frank. Quite interested in that. I’ve been considering building a jog dial from scratch so that you could include appropriate indicator LEDs for axis and speed. I really wouldn’t want to accidentally plunge the head into the deck with a 10mm move or something.
Looks nice so far! That would be a really handy thing to have working!
@Ben_Delarre I am thinking the same thing. I’ve already got the WiringPi library linked in and the code scarred to drive LEDs hooked up to the Raspberry Pi, so it would show exactly what you are talking about. I’m also interested in ways that I could get ChiliPeppr to indicate what the active axis and speed are. For example, I was thinking if I sent something out as a gcode comment, perhaps the Axes widget in ChiliPeppr could see that and trigger to show the buttons pressed for that axis and speed. But, I like having the LEDs local as well.
Very cool and very promising looking! Maybe the days of me moving my machine by hand is over with something like this. Quite intuitive too. Keep up the good work.
I will have to check out he code.
Yes. I like your work. Push the that envelope sir!
the code for this utility is now available. Feel free to try it out and contribute. See the “TODO” file for things that I know it needs. And feel free to suggest any others. https://github.com/lordmundi/shuttleCP
