I recently started using #KISSlicer and descoverd it does not have the ability to rotated parts in the X or Y direction. A bit frustrating as you are hamstrung by how the model was originally made. However I found a workaround. I use autodesk Inventor so open a new assembly and place in the part to be altered. Next constain the base of the part using a Mate to the XY origin plain and save. Export the .stl file using the Send to 3D print command and you are good to go.
Cura can save models as loaded, including grouping multiple parts.
I came from Cura but found the results were not as good on my Delta as KISSlicer. Every chance I was doing something wrong in Cura but couldn’t work out what.
You can use Cura just for manipulating models then slice with another program.
You can rotate models in the Z direction with KISSlicer, right click the model in the upper right hand corner.
woops, meant to write rotate around the x or Y axis to stand objects up
You can do that too.
Thanks @ThantiK . Such a simple feature to overlook.
We stopped using KISSlicer a long time ago. It not only has a bunch of limitations compared to other slicers, but they’ve stopped supporting it. We use Slic3r, Cura, and Voxelizer. And of course Makerware and Makerbot for Desktop for our Makerbots. Slic3r doesn’t allow reorientation on anything but the Z axis either, however Meshmixer can be used to reorient on the X and Y axis.
@American_3D_Printing …latest beta of KISS was released this January! Here: (http://www.kisslicertalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=362). It’s not out of support at all. And what limitations are you talking about? The single-file limitation? That’s not present if you pay for the pay-for software. – Additionally, if you read the comments, you’ll see that it does in fact have the ability that Brad Smith was needing, he just didn’t know where it was located.
Also, Slic3r allows orientation in all axis, as of version 1.2…which is available, and has been for a while now.
@ThantiK
Elijah at Type A Machines wrote to me several months ago that their company had migrated from KISSlicer to Cura because KISSlicer was no longer supported. We’re currently using Slic3r 1.1.7, which we downloaded in August. I’ll have to check and see about 2.x. I have never seen where an object can be reoriented in the X or Y axis in KISSlicer, only rotated about the Z axis.
Right click the object box below the slice and save buttons , select “Transform Axes” and all the rotation, mirror etc will be there
