I think it’s time for me to start planning the upgrade to multiple extruders.

Saw that one and thought the same thing. ordered some HIPS last night.
What slicing software best supports “true” multi-material printing?
I imagine you would need to allow for multiple filament diameters, multiple E steps/mm (firmware, I know), multiple retractions, and multiple hot-end temperatures to really support any configuration of several materials. Does any of the software easily allow all of that?
Good question, seems like all of them are kind of a hack for this right now.
Slic3r does second-extruder support printing with one click, and you can also do two-color printing from two STLs by first converting them to a single multi-material AMF (Slic3r can also do this conversion, though the interface for it isn’t great).
Nice, picking away support material can be laborious
