I thought some of you might be interested in a project I’ve just finished to improve the dual extruder performance of my 3d printer - a Bukobot Duo.
I decided to split the standard dual-extruder x-carriage in half and drive each extruder separately (i.e., there’s now two X-carriages). This means you can park-and-cap one extruder while the other is printing. This avoids the normal ooze problems you have with the inactive extruder when printing, So far I’ve been getting really good results.
SUPER COOL!!
This firmware could also be easily extended to support the simultaneous printing of two copies of an arbitrary object (as long as they both fit on the build platform) - thereby doubling your printer’s throughput.
This is great, I think 2 bowden extruders would fit on my prusa mendel (original size), without resizing and replacing rods.
