I thought this might interest some of us here. The company I work for just launched a service specifically for small runs called Batch Control.

The idea is that if you’re a business or professional you can print off short series of objects, controlling the z-axis print orientation, scale, number, particle size etc. but since the minimum order is fairly low (20) it’s great for hobbyists too.

I plan on using it for printing off custom robot parts, get the design right iteratively on my @Peachy_Printer (can’t wait to get it!) before ordering a stack of prints in more durable nylon from @Sculpteo .

Disclosure: As mentioned in my post above, I work for Sculpteo, but think this should be of interest to the community

Anyway, enjoy the article, @Engadget says it better than I could anyway!

PS: depending on the geometry of the object, and number ordered, you also save tons on the unit cost… I’ve been able to get the cost down by over 60% per unit just by making sure I fill layers properly and orient them to reduce the z-height
