I wanted to share the results of my Illuminated bike, that was made to ride in a Mardi Gras parade using FastLED.
Very very nice plz share the build details !
That’s some rolling wonderfulness!
Looks absolutely great! Any tips for other bike-decorators?
I’ve achieved a minor bit of fame in the Dallas night-riding community as the old guy who keeps his Christmas lights on his bike all year round. They are all just teensy color-shifting LEDs bought on Amazon but I want to re-do them with real LEDs. Like you have done. Are they all synced or independent? You can get waterproof 3xAA battery holders from Adafruit that can be zip-tied to the hubs or spokes like I have.
I’m working on putting some information about the build together with a few photos. I was pressed for time in the end and did not take many pictures during assembly. There are 3 arduino pro minis on the bike. all the electronics on the wheels are contained on/in the wheel so that it can move freely. I originally wanted the wheels to be synchronized, but was unsure how to do it. I am not a programmer at all, the best I can do is copy paste/modify slightly. My next attempt was to use some wireless tech to change patterens on both wheels at once with a button press. I tried cheap 433Mhz tras/rec, but could not get it to work properly, I then tried some 315Mhz keyfob and receivers from adafruit, but could only get them to work a few inches away from the fob. I was out of time, so the best I could do was power the wheels on as close to the same time as I could. I designed and 3-d printed the mounts for the leds on the wheels, they are bullet style WS2812B.
Here is more information on the build. If you have any questions, feel free.
