I wish Tuesday would hurry up and arrive so I can unpack my brand spanking new PrintrBot Simple 2016. (Or so UPS says) The anticipation is driving me crazy. That being said, are there any mods that I should do to the printer?

Did not find anything for the Simple 2016 I did order some buildtak for the printer bed. Never used it before, so I thought why not try, especially since the Simple 2016 does not have a heated bed.

The new Simple already has the new leadscrew :wink: crossing my fingers that this is the week we drop the new printrboard G2 firmware that has Marlin compatibility! This means if you don’t want to use the cloud service, you just use off the shelf Cura (compatibility w other host software coming soon). This is s milestone for us, as this opens up different nozzle sizes and any settings you please in your slicer. The cloud is for stock .3mm nozzle and has a finite amount of settings you can change.

I have a question about the Simple 2016, can a heated bed be added as an option? I have found some 6X8" heated beds on ebay, but I am not sure if they can be used with the simple.

Yes, we will have some for sale soon that are perfect matches, but you can buy your own. I’m a stickler on minimalism so it’s taken me a while to settle on a design… if you buy your own, consider putting a piece of metal on top so entire surface is one plane and the purge will work. It will be problematic otherwise. Sorry to keep everyone waiting

So I can add the heated bed, but then instead of glass, add a cast aluminum plate? I’ll just wait for the official upgrade. I rarely print ABS, and for PLA I can live without it (I usually set my Di3 to55-65 deg C depending on the filament qualit, but have gotten good results on just tape on a non heated bed)

I didn’t think about glass… if you put metal tape on the probe areas, that could go on top of the self-sourced heat bed
