IEC 61850 is an international standard that describes a communication system for substation automation and management of Decentralized Energy Resources (DER). It is seen as one of the communication standards of the emerging Smart Grid. The library now includes a BeagleBone Black demo.

This library wasn’t available when we licenced a third party closed source 61850 stack to use in our products targeting the electrical utility industry. I’m curious if its robust enough for serious use in the field but it looks promising at a glance. Our am335x based product begins shipping in April.
