If you are into square rods, you may want to take a look at the chicken struder:: it’s a brilliant intermediary between bowden and direct. Best of both worlds, light but without retraction.

Yes I’ve seen this already. But in this case it’s still necessary to move the stepper at least on one axis.
I would like to set my next printer up in a way where no motor needs to be moved.

But it’s still a good idea for some other printers.
