If you haven’t seen their series on Hackaday already, have a look. Every couple of weeks they come out with a new tutorial on making things in popular CAD/3D modeling packages. They’ve done AutoCAD, Blender, OpenSCAD, and are now doing one in Sketchup. They’re worth checking out if you’re at all interested in designing your own things to print.

@HACKADAY is doing a great job with these articles. It saddens me to actually look at the list of programs and realize that the most popular free ones have some huge drawbacks. I am tempted to roll my own, but then I realize that I have zero experience in 3d programming and language interpreters.

@ThantiK aren’t you the one always telling people in no uncertain terms not to use Sketchup?

@Normand_Chamberland sketchup is a turd, but sometimes a free turd in hand is worth two in the tush?

@Normand_Chamberland the nice bit is they are making the same Model in several packages. Be just grabbed the link for sketch-up, their architecture won’t let them group articles nicely, so to pass the information they link to the link ones
