If you or someone/team you know are developing a sintering 3D Printer, taulman3D has a limited amount of nylon 618 in powder form that we wish to provide in support of any open source development efforts. As with all of our materials, these are free to developers and testers.

I’ve been trying some experiments in this area with a 500mW blue laser but haven’t had any success with quality fusing, and haven’t even started looking at how to lay down thin powder beds. Anyone have any ideas on powder distribution mechanisms?

@Tom_Martz Not sure if this qualifies but I am currently testing the E3D Kraken quad hot end and I’d love to get hold of some 618 and t-glase to incorporate into my multi material testing phase. Financial constraints prevent me from purchasing any for the next few months, but I’m really keen to see how they work in combination with each other and with PLA and ABS - I particular what happens when you alternate infill layers between t-glase and ABS with ABS perimeters to get an ABS finish while minimizing shrinkage due to the t-glase-ABS infill matrix. If you check my feed you’ll see I’m actively developing a very large Tantillus variant that is a good fit for the Kraken, hence my early access to a prototype.
I have a couple thermal photo print heads I’ve been meaning to try melting plastic powder with, but I think id need to have a heated power container holding the powder near it’s melting point as the heads don’t like to be hot for long. This powder would probably have too high of a melting point. But if anyone knows where to get some fine PLA powder I’d love to know!
@Tim_Rastall @Liam_Jackson Tim, please contact me. Liam, We have seen 2 projects that are using thermal print heads, however they are limited by a patent held by the 'Blue Printer" folks. Also, we have provided several pounds to the RepRap Sintering project, so they will be an excellent source for actual sintering temperatures.
@Tom_Martz do you have any info on those projects? I never planned to sell them, just open source a design people could build, so patents don’t worry me!
@Liam_Jackson
As we are currently under no less than 84 NDA’s with Medical and Industrial customers, we hold all requests in confidence. I can say to start looking for some new groups to come on-line in late 2014 with 3DsP’s
@Reila_Z
I can’t say as there is a limited amount available. The best approach is to keep checking the site as when it’s all distributed, we’ll update the site.
