I’m considering a Lulzbot Taz 6 for my kids (middle school and elementary).
Are the any strong opinions against this unit within this community?

I like them, although I used to consult for them so I’m somewhat biased. They make good products, though.
If you go by Toms review it’s a very good printer. It’s still the one I would buy if I bought instead of built printers and had to pick one. Although the genuine prusa got a very good review too.
I have one. It’s good, but not great. I replaced the y axis with 12mm rods, replaced the extruder with an E3D Titan + v6 hotend. Much better now, but still needs some work.
Great company, ok product. Default quality is not what I expected from a $2500 printer.
I don’t have any recommendations for a better one. In my experience you’ll always find some issues, and you won’t know what they are until some hands on.
@Stephanie_A Thank you for the insight.
@Michael_Scholtz Thank you…I’ll look into the genuine prusa
@Justin_Nesselrotte I spoke with a customer rep (before purchasing) for about an hour. It was a pleasant experience. Good sign.
Isn’t that a 3mm filament machine, that’s a major con in my book.
@kenneth_rooks Hmm…I hadn’t considered that…you are correct. what would you recommend as an ideal filament diameter for any 3D printer ?
1.75mm for the win!!
Most common filament out there.
Also have you considered a delta machine? I’m biased as I love those and have built a couple.
1.75mm is more common. That’s why I changed the extruder.
@kenneth_rooks ohhhh…I get it. The deltas are a clever means to map Cartesian space without moving the part.
@Stephanie_A ohh…that titan part is a nice add-on (or replacement). I understand now why you made the upgrade. It pays for itself after 4 spools of 3mm of ABS.
Yep yep yep, pretty neat to look at with simple construction as well. I’ve owned both Cartesian and Delta printers, and my personal preference is the Delta for the speed and the way it moves. @A_Boh_Ruffin let me know if you have any questions or concerns, I’d be happy to rant to ya.
