I’m finishing up my print cave called ArtLab Kentucky and humidity became a larger concern than we expected as its rained a lot this summer and our black PLA samples curl tremendously. How and where do you store your plastics?

Our plan now is to use a closet and a dehumidifier to pull the moisture out of the air. I’d rather not spend a fortune on a wine cellar type cabinet. Suggestions?

Thanks.

Hope this helps

5 gallon buckets are pretty good. Some places have clear ones so you can see what colors are inside. I seal all of the dessicant packets that come with our filament in one as soon a I open the vacuum bags. Out shop is dry enough (and we go through filament fast enough) that I only bother to put materials that are particularly moisture-sensitive in with the hundreds of packets I’ve accumulated.

Thanks for the feedback y’all. @Scott_Dunham we’ll be at the Kre8Now Makerspace: 1210 Manchester St but we open in about a week or so. We’re fixing up one of the old Pepper Mill Distillery buildings. :smiley:

Colour changing silica dessicant is also pretty cheap and re-useable, look for the stuff for drying flowers as it tends to be cheaper by volume. The colour change is useful as you know when to swap it out and bake the wet stuff.

I’ve got a plastic storage box (curver or so), filled with a layer of saw-dust, then a piece of carton, and on top of that my fillament. Sealed the top with some plastic kitchen foil. Lid on top.

I’d suggest ptting some dessicant in your storage system as well. Either silica which is reusable, or those disposable pails intended for basements that they sell at hardware stores.

@Marvin_Stuart
I stopped the video after less than a minute, I couldn’t stand the voice over. It is so monotonous it sounds computer generated.

It was computer generated lol

Yeah, I didn’t like the voice myself but I found it on youtube and it was very useful so i thought i would share

@Marvin_Stuart Thanks anyway, it sounded useful info, hopefully most people’s ears won’t be as sensitive as mine. :wink:
