I'm having an issue with a clogged nozzle...

I’m having an issue with a clogged nozzle… I took off the throat and realized that it was the tip that was clogged. It happened during an overnight print using abs. I’ve tried to burn out the clogged filament but no luck. Last ditch effort is soaking it in acetone but I can’t take out the thermistor or heater… Any ideas?

If you have nylon heat it up to regular printing temperatures then let it cool down to around 110C while keeping pressure applied on the filament into the nozzle. Then do what’s called a cold pull where you pull nylon back out. I found it’s the fastest and most effective way to remove any debris from inside the nozzle

If you have any questions just Google nylon cold pull for a hot end and there will be plenty of more in-depth instructions.

@Eclsnowman does that only work with nylon? I have some but have never used it

I use welding tip cleaning wire when that happens

@Abc_Def nylon works best.

@funinthefalls I just picked up the welding cleaners… Looks like the cleaners that came with the printer. That should work perfectly

The welding tip cleaners mixed with acetone did the trick!

I use a butane Pen Torch to burn mine out (I rarely get clogs) since it burns extremely hot.

@Joshua_Taylor that’s exactly what I started with. Didn’t work this time though

@Abc_Def aw okay then. What’s your nozzle size ? I have wondered why I don’t have clogs as often as many other users. I use a .4 nozzle.

@Joshua_Taylor it’s a .4 nozzle and this is the first actual clog I’ve had with it. Using pla is a different story though. There is too much heat creep for pla

I use a different method. I strip about an inch or 2 of insulation off some #22 fine braided wire, trim all the strands back about 1/4" except one. Spinning between thumb and forefinger carefully insert as far into heated hot end as possible and remove. Repeat until the single uncut strand pokes out the bottom. Never had to repeat more than 3 times.

I didnt lean towards a nozzle since I have only had 1 clog in 6 months which i contributed to the nozzle size more than the “amazing” build. I am glad the clog was fixed. I hope your Micro fair’s you less issues then most have.

If you tried burning it out and @John_Rice 's suggestion doesn’t work (make sure the nozzle is heated when you push the wire through) the plastic may have become oxidized. If that’s the case you would have to drill out the nozzle.
