I’m in the midst building http://3dprinting.org and want the site based on making a living in 3d printing or supplementing ones income. I was at the show in Chicago and plan to attend the one in San Jose in September. I will not link to my site on this post out of respect to the group. I am not a spammer looking to make a quick buck, just regular guy looking for some constructive input. Thanks.

Looks like Google made a link for you anyway Jim

Sounds like you want http://3dprinting.com, not http://3dprinting.org. .org is for non-profit activity.

To think that you will have any substantial supplementary income from using a rep-rap is a bit misguided… at least from what I’ve seen, read, and heard (unless you have a $100k large volume sintering machine.)

Honestly, I get a little tired of all the people I hear that go “Oh cool, 3D printer, how can I make money with it?!”… they’re a dime a dozen and everyone keeps trying, but not realizing that you don’t make money directly with a 3D printer, you make money by making things, and simply using the 3D printer to get those things prototyped quicker.

@ThantiK Is quite right here. unless you own a commercial grade printer, whatever you produce is going to be only really appropriate for limited use cases. FDM produced objects aren’t even close to being as durable as their injection moulded counterparts same goes for surface finish. And, as desktop printers are so cheap now, if you want to produce a prototype, you buy an UP! or whatever because you never produce just 1 prototype, it’s an iterative process and a 3d printer speeds that up if it’s right there in the workshop, that advantage is diminished greatly. if you have to wait for someone to print your next iteration and fedex it to you. In saying that, perhaps there’s a greater market demand for cog vases and Yoda busts than I’m aware of.
Sorry to add extra negativity here @Jim_Intihar but you’ll need to convince us that you’ve got a considered business model.
