Im in the process of building a smartcore printer based of the smartfriendz design.
I found some points of improvement and have redesigned some parts.
One part that I have not changed yet is the belt tensioner (or lack of…) Hard to believe that you can get a good tension with the original design?
Points that I have changed:
Door and hood to get a heated chamber.
New z axis with dual threaded rods modified for LM12UU based of https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1042859
New belt setup designed for gt2 idlers (with teeth were needed).
New motor mounts with pulley closer to motor, and new bracket on motor back.
New rear belt guides for gt2 idlers and stronger fix points.
I love to get some input on the changes I have made!
Btw it’s a 300x300x450mm build volume (build platform is 350x350 to get even heat at edges), 12mm rods on z and y, 8mm rod on x.
Thank you @Markus_Granberg much appreciate it
No problem… Hows your build going? I got the frame done
Looks great. Let me know how it goes.
I like your z and always thought there should be an upper front support. Where do you get gt2 idlers with teeth?
I got the idlers from this store
Yes, and I chose to use a threaded rod to not obstruct the view when the bed is up.
Good work, dude. It beautiful. I love minimalistic design. Elegant. Really nice work.

Thanks, have you considered notching the top edge so the entire carriage is below the top of the wood box?
Nice, I have 2 threaded rod smartrap (400mmx400mm area) but only uses 8mm and got some wooble on Z-axis, I think 12mm rods would fix that.
I plan to change for: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:896556
Do you think you need the hood, so large?
Thanks for the feedback.
@Daniel_Kruger I have, but i do like the design with the mechanism hangs on the top of the box for some reason
@Jarrid_Kerns No not necessarily, I will fabricate the hood when the printer is up and running. Its the bowden cable thats the problem.
