I’m just about ready to start testing my OX machine , can any one suggest some general cutting speeds and feed rates for Pine and MDF?
Love to hear these
MDF are easy to mill, try a 3mm endmill with 1000mm/min and deep 1mm.
Agreed, MDF is very forgiving. Too slow and you’ll burn the wood but not really as sensitive as, say farrows materials.
Have you calibrated your steps/rev? Typically first thing I’ll do is use an engraving bit and draw a square at .1mm DoC and 800mm/m. Check your settings they may have a max travel velocity of 800mm/min as default.
I do 2.5mm deep at 3000mm/min with a 2 flue 5/16 bit, which is kinda the max before you start to make un-straight cuts. MDF I can do at 3250mm/min and 3mm deep with the same bit.
Thanks for the advice so far, I have drawn a square and the size was right, next step will be to cut one. Any other views?
