I’m just getting started with LaserWeb and have things basically working. Tonight I tried to load a jpg image and burn it to a piece of wood, I was expecting a grayscale image on the piece, but while it was burning it looked like a solid gray square. Then when it finished I realized that I could feel the relief of the picture even though I couldn’t see it much. So the question is what settings would I use in LaserWeb to create a grayscale image, instead of a relief etching?

All my grayscale engraves are done at 7ma set on my potentiometer for 100% and depending on the material I will set power scale in laserweb to 60-100% for most objects… I would suggest you get a 0-100% black calibration image and test different speeds and top power settings… also note post processing can reveal what you thought was a failed engrave… I use 400 grit sand paper and do a light sanding before and after I engrave an image

Before post process…

Also be mindful I will be hosting a YouTube live stream for this exact thing… how to prep images for grayscale engrave, running the engrave, and a quick post process… more details should be announced within a week I’m working the bugs out of the streaming software now

Thanks Alex, I assume your live stream will be available afterwards for non-live viewing?

Yes sir  and I plan on doing several others to accommodate different material types… for the first one I will focus on wood as the canvas

Thanks both, I think I understand it better now. Of course I’ll have to experiment for a while.

Minor side question - the laserWeb install specifically mentions Google Chrome for the browser to use. Is Chrome really the only thing that will work, or is Firefox OK too?
